Welcome to TigerStadiumDetroit.com! This site preserves Tiger Stadium in Detroit, Michigan through photos, interviews, articles and provides the latest news about the future of this baseball cathedral. Baseball was played for one hundred and four years in Bennett Park, Navin Field, Briggs Stadium and finally in Tiger Stadium, all at the corner of Michigan and Trumbull. Consequently, Tiger Stadium is filled with mighty tales of heroics involving legends from Cobb to Gibson. TigerStadiumDetroit.com was created to tell their stories and offer updates on the cloudy and unsure future of Tiger Stadium. Some may ask why the interest in this old ballpark? For baseball fans the answer is easy, for the love of game. In his book, " The Final Season- Fathers, Sons and One Last Season in a Classic American Ballpark" author Tom Stanton describes Tiger Stadium best: "Our ballpark feels like Detroit. It carries no airs. It's blue collar and industrial. When you enter through the gates, you come in beneath corrugated doors that have been rolled up on tracks, like at a warehouse delivery dock. You're greeted by cement and steel, strong, riveted girders that thrust upward and serve a purpose, holding the deck above in place. There are no architectural flourishes, no cornices, no fancy tile work, no aesthetic touches. This stadium shows its secrets - pipes, wires, girders and all. It's plain and simple, no scent of pretentiousness. It doesn't yearn to be something it is not." Yes Tiger Stadium is no longer the home of the Tigers or the Detroit Lions but it holds special memories and records that the corporate owners and politicians cannot erase. We witnessed 11,111 home runs, four World Series champion teams, four NFL Championship teams, All-Star games and more. Most importantly, this grand lady brought a city together to root for their home teams and just for a few hours cast the worries of life aside and find solace in this great and special place. I hope you will visit from time to time to relive old times or find out about what fate has in store for Tiger Stadium, the old ball yard at Michigan and Trumball. |
